The Choir presents two major concerts annually, which serve as our primary fundraisers to support our activities year-round. In addition, we take part in several community sing-outs throughout the year
A truly unique evening where the Choir serves your meal and delivers the entertainment! This fun-filled family event features music, comedy skits, and sing-alongs—with the charm only the Fort William Male Choir can bring. Be our guest! This event takes place on the 2nd weekend in May.
In 1927, the Fort William Male Choir began as an impromptu male voice octet formed by eight members of St. Paul’s Anglican Church. Since its founding, the Choir has remained dedicated to promoting male choral singing and enriching the Lakehead’s musical culture.
As their numbers and reputation grew, the choir’s musical influence extended from the local stage to national and international audiences.
Darlene Chepil Reid, originally from Westfort, began her musical journey at Westgate under Jim Jewitt. After earning a BSc in Chemistry and Math from McMaster, she pursued music studies at Lakehead (HBMus), Conservatory Canada (AMus), Western (MMus), and the University of Alberta (DMus). She performs with the Roy Coran Big Band (trombone), ThunderBrass Quintet (tuba), and sings bass with The Rolling Tones barbershop quartet. A longtime piano teacher, Darlene now lectures in Music History, Theory, Composition, and Orchestration at Lakehead University. She’s also an active composer and arranger, and thrilled to be conducting the FWMC.
